Secretaries Report.
The club year started in
December, public liability insurance still not resolved and clubs subs due. No
change was made to subscription rates. Novice trips were planned for February
March and April. A provisional meet list was drawn up for 2005. A Donation of
£50.00 received from SPLASH for club funds for the running of three caving
trips for young people in the Burnley area as part of the low cost sport and leisure activities for young
people in the summer of 2003 February the insurance scheme by the British
Caving Association was received, caving member £18.00, non-caving member £6.00.
All paid up members will be covered at no increase of subs this year.
The club was experiencing falling membership; a number of solutions were raised: The
introduction of a novice trip each month. Expand the scope of the club activities
to attract more members. An open day to promote the club. A further meeting was
held in March to discuss the changes.
A special general meeting was held on the
6th May. The meeting discussed the name change and the inclusion of climbing
into the club activities. The name change was rejected, but the inclusion of
climbing activities was agreed. Jim Penny will be the co-ordinater of the climbing group. Because of the conditions of the caving insurance cover we are not insured for member to member cover in respect of climbing. At present climbing is done on an informal basis, Jim and group meet on an evening at 6pm. Tuesday evening at the Barden Climbing wall through the winter months and local rock outcrops in the summer, Weekend climbing venues are also arranged.
The British Caving Association
insurance and membership cards for 2004 issued by the club in June. The
membership currently stands at 26 members.
The club welcomes three new members Mark Goodwin, Ken Hurst and Heather Hurst.
Barbara Taylor. Also the return of Cath. Dennis and Duncan.
The club ran two caving trips for 24 local youths for SPLASH this year. The SPLASH committee formally closed on September 2004. Burnley SPLASH thanked the
club for its members supporting the aims of SPLASH over the years. We received
£385.00 cheque towards the clubs continued support through activities for young
people. The club will continue to support the Burnley SHOUT a similar scheme to
SPLASH.
