BCC Newsletter Spring 2002

Foreword.

Caving continues apace now the foot and mouth situation has been confined to the history books. Trips continue on a regular basis, with trips planned for the Ease Gill and Gaping Gill areas in the near future. A weekend trip to Wales is planned for early June contact Simon Mitchell or the Editor for further details.

Obituaries.

George Perfect, long known as an old friend of BCC, died peacefully at his home recently. George was a guest speaker at BCC's Fifty Year Dinner and was well known as one of the real characters of the Dales. A fuller obituary will appear in the next Newsletter.

BCC has received the news that Shawn Bradshaw died from a drug overdose last year. Shawn was a member of BCC, at least for a short time when he was about 17; it was Jack Nadin who introduced him to caving, the son of good friends of his, Tommy and Rita Bradshaw. Shawn who was 27 leaves a partner, Karen, and two small children, Kyle and Daniel. He also had three brothers, Jason, Terry and Warren.

New members.

BCC is pleased to welcome the following new members: Kieron Dobson, Andrew Pate, Janet Roberts, Colin, John and Andrew Simpson. Considerable interest in the club (and some new members) continues to be generated by BCC's website at www.burnleycavingclub.org.uk

Splash trips.

The annual caving trips with Burnley Council's SPLASH programme for young people will take place on 13 & 20 July this year. This activity generates some revenue for the club and fosters interest in caving in potential members. Volunteers are needed from within the club to accompany these groups underground, see any Committee member for details.

Subscriptions.

If you haven't paid your subscription by now please do so, as it's overdue! See Peter Wilson or any Committee member with your cash.

Afterword.

A fuller newsletter will be published in November in time for the Annual Dinner with the provisional date and venue of Saturday November 9th at the Old Station Inn Giggleswick.
